Fashion Report: the VMA's

So did you guys see the MTV VMA's last night! It was amazing! I missed a whole night of shows including Jerseylicous (my guilty pleasure), Big Rich Texas, and Tia and Tamera. It was definetly worth it though! Now for the fun part! I really love reporting on fashions seen at celebrity red carpets events! Maybe when I rich and famous, I can do if for real! Until then, I'll just be blogging on red carpet fashions from the comfort of my own home! So here were the amazing and wacky looks from the show:

Selena Gomez looked like a Gothic princess in her black lacy Julien McDonald dress. Her gold accessories and matching gold Bryant Atwood heels helped her shine like a true star! I have to say Selena Gomez is becoming quite a style star. Who knew that she would ever become such a fashionista?

Beyonce was GLOWING in her fiery, orange one-shouldered Lanvin gown. She looked like a queen even with her hair in a ponytail! Only B could pull off such a bold dress and rock it! I can't believe Beyonce is going to have a baby! Her baby is going to be just as stylish as she is, that's a fact!

Demi Lovato was a  sparkly gladiator at VMA's. Her silver bejeweled body-con dress by Mandalay was spot on, especially when paired with her metal-toned Christian Louboutin heels! Her flawless smokey eye and gorgeous ombre curls were a killer combination!

Katy Perry definetly had some Asian influence in VMA outfit. She wore a floral blue, yellow, and pink Atelier Versace frock, hot pink, strappy Jimmy Choos, and a matching parasol. Her cotton-candy pink look made the look just too cute! I love Katy Perry's sense of style! It's just so whimsical and fun!

Nicki Minaj is definetly not your average celebrity. She doesn't act like normal celebs and she definetly doesn't wear what most celebs would, that's for sure! Nicki Minaj looks like one of Gwen Stefani's Harajuka Girls, only wackier! But I have to admit, a girl's got to have some serious confidence to rock this look! I just want to know how she could talk with that Shojono Tomo surgical mask!

Kelly Rowland was definetly motivated to look good at the VMA's last night. She looked amazing in her black and gold sheer, feather, and leather Falguni and Shane Peacock mini dress! She finished off the look with her studded Christian Louboutin peep toes.

Awkward's Ashley Richards wore a gathered olive-green BCBG dress with had a large feather collar and beaded detailing. I'm not sure I like the dress. The color is stunning on her but the dress looks like towel, they stapled together at the side!
Those of you who didn't get to catch the VMA's, you guys missed out! But don't worry there will surely be another award show in couple of weeks! There usually is. What did you guys think of the looks? To me, they were either a hit or miss! I'm so looking forward to my next fashion report! These are so fun!

Fall Trends for 2011

A while ago, I did a post on fall's beauty trends, so I thought I would do fall's fashion trends. Fall fashion is so fun to shop for and with the help of this post, you guy will know what to keep your eyes out for. So without further ado, here are some fall trends:

1.Sixties-Mod:
The sixties was definetly a fun decade for fashion. It's no wonder people are so happy to bring it back. The era's favorites include Peter pan collars, patent shifts, and double-breasted pea coats. My favorite part of the sixties was the ever fabulous Twiggy! Her features are stunning, especially her eyes!

Look at those killer boots!
Alberta Ferretti

This one is so girly! Love the two-tone jacket! I think this is a must for 60's fashion.
Bottega Veneta

This girl means business in her fun, little pea-coat. Big buttons like these add a cool touch to any jacket!
Louis Vuitton
2. Liquid Shine:
I know probrably from the name, you guys are like," What is she talking about?", but trust me when I say this trend is sick! This trend is all about having your outfits look like they are dripping with a liquid shine. It looks really good on dresses!

I love the skirt! The designer was really smart to cover up on top since the skirt showed a lot of skin! This is a good tip! Haider Ackermann

The shiny, fringe-y pieces are amazing! The fur accents give the look that Eskimo feel! This would be cute for winter, too! Altuzarra

This mini dress is amazing! You gotta be really confident to pull off all that crazy bling! I could so handle it! Just kidding! Balmain
3. Graphic Prints:
I love prints! I never really had a lot of graphic printed clothes but I'm always open to trying this trend out! I'm more into the girly and glamourous trends but I wouldn't be a true fashionista if I wasn't open to new trends!

I love the pants! You could build a whole outfit around them! This is by Proenza Schouler.

I love how they were able to mix all the colors without the whole outfit looking like the rainbow! I love wearing lots of colors together but sometimes it looks like I let a kindergartner dress me! This is from Prada.

I feel like someone could actually where this outfit because everything is simple except for the top. This is by Preen.

4. Fun Floral
We all know floral prints are a big part of spring but who says they can't be apart of fall? Flowers make me happy! They are so feminine and sweet!

This outfit is so whimsical! Love the tights! Note to self: get me a pair of floral tights. This is by Mary Katrantzou.

This one is really abstract and artsy! The black accents really make the colors POP! This is by Giles Deacon.

It's canary yellow! The color makes me think of Tweety Bird! This is by Givenchy.
5. Do the Polka- Dot:
Fall's MVP( Most Valuable Print) is the polka-dots. Polka-dots are so fun and peppy! They give any outfit that retro feel.

I love how they added a statement necklace and coat to the outfit. It really creates a dramatic look! This is by Marni.

I am not really feeling this outfit but I love the bow! Is this supposed to be a swimsuit cover-up? This is by Gucci.

Who knew polka-dots could be edgy? I sure didn't! This is by Lanvin.
So these are some of fall's fabulously fun trends! I just used alliteration! Sorry, that was random! Anyway I hope you guys found this post helpful. These are only some of the trends. There are still tons more! I can't wait till fashion week because I'm craving some new runway looks! I'm looking forward to Betsey Johnson and Milly NY.

P.S. I just hit 50 followers! Thank you for all of you who have been with me since the beginning and even my newest followers! I love ya'll! I finally have people I can talk to about fashion who don't get bored and who's eyes start glazing over the minute I start listing off fashion designers. I couldn't have done it without all you guys! I know people say that all the time but I mean it! This isn't my first blog. I had a blog before this called The Fashion Gypsy but it was definetly not as good as this one! I was just want to say thank you and I can't wait till we reach our next blog mark together! :)

Current Obsession: Sassy Satchel Bags

So I know I have been gone for a little while, but I'm back! I'm sorry to have abandoned you guys, but I had so much homework this week. Education is important especially since I want to get into a good school, to pursue my fashion dreams. So you guys are going to have to hang on until I can work out a schedule where I can post a lot more times a week. Hopefully, this post will make it up to you guys!

As you guys can tell by the title, my latest obsessions is satchel bags! I'm really loving them right now especailly since it's getting closer to fall! These bags are so chic and laid-back , all at the same time! Even though, I'm such a girly-girl, I love being able throw my bag across my body when I get tired of holding it in my hand. They come in a variety of colors, fabrics, and even prints (YAY! Leopard print, anyone?), so there is one for everyone! I've been seeing them all over school, and I hope that I will be able to get one before falls hits. So here is my favorite part of posting, the pictures:

There is just something about metallic accessories, that I just love! This bag works fore me! This is by ASOS.

This bag is perfect for those girls that are fans of the color blocking trend! I love the tassels at the end of the zipper! This is by DKNY.

This gingham reminds me of Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz! The heart clasp is adorable! "There's no place like home". This is by ModCloth.

This bag for those of you who don't know is very popular among the fashion blogging world! It's called the Cambridge Satchel. It comes is a bunch of different colors, but my favorite ones are the neons. It's a little simple for my taste, but simple can be good! "Make it work!", as Tim Gunn would say.

This bag is a little intimidating! I'm not gonna lie! Maybe it has to do with the snakeskin print and the black color? Would anyone of you guys wear this bag? This is by Proenza Schouler.

I spy with my little eye, a bag that's rocking some fierce leopard print! I love IT! I feel like I need to get my obsession with leopard print under control. It's probably my favorite print ever!

This bag is a little bigger that all the rest, but it's still cute! I wish the floral print was a little bigger and bolder, because it looks a little casual. I like a bag that I can dress up or dress down.

This rich purple color is gorgeous! Suede and purple are a killer combination! This bag is fit for a queen! This one is by Proenza Schouler.
So, are you guys loving satchel bags, as much as I am? I will not stop until I get my hands on a really cute one! I feel like this bag will still be popular even in the winter and spring. Satchel bags are definetly a wardrobe staple! Get your hands on one while you still can!

By-the-way, I finally got my hands on a copy of the Teen Vogue Fashion Handbook! I checked it out at my school library, so I get to have it for 2 weeks! I can't wait to start it this weekend!

African Fashion Week 2011

Today's post is really close to my heart because I'm talking about the African Fashion Week that was held in London not to long ago! I didn't even know there was an African Fashion Week until one of my cousin told me. I knew I had to do a blog post on this because the clothes are just gorgous!

Since my parents are African, I worn my fair share of African clothes. I love wearing them because they are just so colorful and expressive. African Fashion Week fully embodied this image I have of African clothes. They showed beauty, style, and fashion all from the African point-of-view. So without further ado, here are some amazing shots from the 2011 African Fashion Week held in London:

Shiny Fabric, Full Skirts, and Pretty Polka Dots! I'm in love! *swoon*

My favorite is the last one! So colorful!

Bright Pink and Sapphire Blue are a killer combination!

Love the different layers of the dress and the shiny gold anklets!

I have to have this dress and those shoes! This is officially my favorite outfit!

Love the statement jewelry!

That necklace is huge! I don't know if I could pull that off!
So what did you guys think? You guys already know that I loved it! I love being able to share my culture with you guys! The Funky Fashionista will become so much more than your typical fashion blog! I just know it!
